Minister Hauk Highlights Commitment to Regional Agriculture
EDEKA Südwest, a prominent player in regional product marketing across southwestern Germany, underscores its commitment to sustainable agriculture through partnerships like that with Hagdorn Tomaten in Eberdingen-Hochdorf near Stuttgart. Minister Peter Hauk MdL recently visited Hagdorn Tomaten to discuss the cooperative efforts between regional producers and the retail giant, emphasizing the importance of reliable sales opportunities and fair compensation for farmers.
Minister Hauk emphasized, “Our goal for Baden-Württemberg is to ensure economically viable and sustainable agriculture while enhancing environmental protection and biodiversity. This requires dependable sales channels and equitable payment for farmers. The collaboration between EDEKA Südwest and Hagdorn Tomaten exemplifies this commitment.”
Highlighting state quality programs such as the Baden-Württemberg organic label and quality label, Minister Hauk stressed the government’s support for promoting high-quality regional products. He noted the significance of transparent communication and trust within the value chain, crucial for successful partnerships.
Jürgen Mäder, a board member of EDEKA Südwest, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Agriculture must have a viable future in our country. We have actively supported regional agriculture, enhancing visibility and promoting local products. Fair dealings along the entire value chain are paramount.”
Klaus Fickert added, “As a major marketer of regional products, we prioritize fair partnerships and actively participate in the state government’s agricultural dialogue.”
For Heiko and Karin Hagdorn, third-generation owners of Hagdorn Tomaten, collaboration with EDEKA Südwest has been integral since 2003, particularly under the “Unsere Heimat – echt & gut” regional brand since 2006. This initiative aligns with EDEKA Südwest’s strategy to offer products sourced from local businesses across more than 1,500 partners in the region. Products under “Unsere Heimat – echt & gut” meet quality standards mandated by state labels such as the Baden-Württemberg quality mark, ensuring consumers receive high-quality regional produce.
Multi-year contracts and purchase guarantees provide stability and future prospects for producers within the program, reinforcing sustainable agricultural practices and long-term planning.
