The cost of onions in the country’s markets continues to gradually decline, which is most noticeable in the north of the republic
In the regions of Tajikistan, the price of onions continues to decline, which has risen in price by almost 4 times compared to last year, Sugdnews reports.
Now one kilogram of this vegetable in the markets and supermarkets of Khujand is sold at a price of 4-4.50 somoni, while two weeks ago the price was 7.00-8.00 somoni.
According to the source, the minimum price for onions in some areas has dropped to 3.30 somoni, the average price is 5.22 somoni, and the maximum price is 8.00 somoni.
The cost in cities and large areas was distributed as follows:
Isfara – 3.30 somoni;
Hissar – 3.54 somoni;
Jaihun – 3.80 somoni;
Kabodiyon and Penjikent – 4.40 somoni;
Khujand – 4.80 somoni;
Dushanbe, Bokhtar and Istaravshan – 5.00 somoni;
Kulyab – 5.60 somoni;
Kushoniyon and Rasht – 6.00 somoni;
Ishkashim – 6.50 somoni;
Khorog – 7.00 somoni;
Murgab – 8.00 somoni.
According to the Main Department of Agriculture of the Sughd region, this year onions have been sown on an area of more than 3.8 thousand hectares of land.
Thus, the Department of Agriculture of the Sughd region reported that as of August 1, more than 41.8 thousand tons of onions were harvested throughout the region.

Earlier, the leadership of the Tajik customs also clarified that they temporarily imposed a ban on the export of onions from the country. Restrictions will continue until prices stabilize in domestic markets.
