The Moscow region ranks first in the Central Federal District in terms of production of open ground vegetables

The Moscow region ranks 1st in the Central Federal District (CFD) and 6th in the whole country in terms of production of open ground vegetables. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region.

“This year, in the Moscow region, we have planned 8.2 thousand hectares of planting areas for open ground vegetables and expect a 10% increase in the yield of potatoes, zucchini, carrots, beets, cabbage and onions. Traditionally, the leaders in production are such urban districts as Dmitrovsky, Kolomna, Serpukhov, Stupino and Lukhovitsy,” said Georgy Filimonov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Moscow Region.
The region also occupies a leading position in terms of milk production – 2nd place in the Central Federal District and 13th place in the country.

The Government of the Moscow Region provides significant support to agro-industrial complexes. For 2022, 5.5 billion rubles are provided from the budget of the region and the federal budget for the payment of subsidies to the agro-industrial complex of the Moscow region.

In the Moscow region, for several years, they have been consistently solving the task of Russian President Vladimir Putin to ensure food security and import substitution. The region has reached a high level of self-sufficiency in vegetables, potatoes, milk, and grain.

The Moscow region is the leader in the production of bread and cheese in Russia, the second in the cultivation of industrial berries. The region is among the top three in terms of greenhouse vegetables. The Moscow region is 70% provided with its own potatoes, almost 60% with vegetables, 35% with milk and grain, and almost 30% with meat. For a number of food positions, the Moscow Region also provides other subjects of the Russian Federation.
