Vegetable growers of the Novosibirsk region plan to build vegetable stores and increase the sown area

The development of vegetable and potato growing was one of the main issues considered at the December meeting of the public council under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Novosibirsk Region.
In 2022, 85 thousand tons of open field vegetables and 270 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested in the region.
Among the districts of the Novosibirsk region, the leaders in the production of vegetables and potatoes in agricultural enterprises are the Novosibirsk and Orda districts, they account for more than 80% of the produced potatoes and more than 95% of vegetables. The largest enterprises are JSC SHP “Yarkovskoye”, LLC OPH “Dary Ordynska”, LLC “Giant’s Gardens”.
Agricultural enterprises, solving the problem of providing residents of the region with locally produced potatoes, increased the area under potatoes by almost 700 hectares in 2022 – up to 3.4 thousand hectares. But it is still too early to talk about the complete self-sufficiency of the region in potatoes and vegetables. Now in our region about 45% of the need for vegetables of the “borscht set” and 65% – potatoes are produced.
“To develop our own vegetable and potato growing is perhaps the highest priority task for the agro-industrial complex of our region,” emphasized Evgeny Leshchenko, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Agriculture of the Novosibirsk Region. “Of course, vegetable and potato producers, like other agricultural producers, enjoy the current federal and regional state support, but for the more active development of this sector in the region, additional measures must be taken, and such state support is now being developed.”
Thus, with the help of state support measures, farms engaged in growing vegetables will be helped to increase the area under crops, increase the share of irrigated areas, and build and modernize storage facilities.
In the strategic plans for the development of the agro-industrial complex of the region, it is planned to increase the production of potatoes by 50% by 2027, and three times the production of vegetables of the “borscht set”.
