Vegetable producers will receive subsidies for agrotechnical work under a new federal project, RIA Novosti reports, citing Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
“A new federal project is now underway: we will provide subsidies for agricultural work in the production of both vegetables and potatoes. This is very important,” Mishustin said.
Agrotechnical work involves soil cultivation, fertilization, preparation of seeds, planting material, sowing, planting, sowing care and harvesting.
It is expected that the federal project on vegetables will begin its work in 2023, said Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev. According to him, all support measures for vegetables will be consolidated in the bill, and measures will also be added taking into account agricultural work. However, he notes that the project is mostly focused on the production of vegetables in the open field.
Mishustin believes that by 2030 the production of vegetables in the country will increase by 20%, in particular potatoes – by 18%. He added that everything needs to be “on our basic material” to ensure the country’s food security. Patrushev also noted that the production of greenhouse vegetables in 2021 increased to 1.5 million tons, compared with 1 million tons in 2020. “This [year] will be even more,” he said.
On July 8, Patrushev at a meeting confirmed the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture for the collection of grain in Russia. In 2022, it may amount to about 130 million tons. According to him, the projected harvest of oilseeds is 22.6 million tons, sugar beet – more than 41.5 million tons, potatoes – at least 6.8 million tons, open ground vegetables – 5.2 million tons. “In the last two years, the Russian Federation has become a net exporter of agricultural products. In 2022, we plan to maintain the results achieved and provide basic products, primarily grain and oil, to all our traditional partners,” Patrushev said.
