Earlier in August, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said that Belarus is interested in the port of Murmansk, as it has access to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans via the Northern Sea Route, in addition to building port facilities near St. Petersburg.
“Today we held an important meeting with representatives of large businesses from the Republic of Belarus. Enterprises of the Murmansk region and partners from a friendly state are interested in implementing joint projects. The need to use Russian ports for transshipment, in particular, Belarusian potash fertilizers arose after Lithuania banned the transit of products from its ports. On August 11, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting on the creation of port facilities in the Russian Federation for the export of Belarusian products. According to him, in this context there are no obstacles from Russia, there is exceptional support. As Prime Minister Golovchenko said, Belarus is already cooperating with nine Russian ports on different seas, in the first half of 2022 it exported about 2 million tons of various cargoes through Russian ports. Earlier it was said that Belarus could build its own port near St. Petersburg.
