USDA (FAS USDA) published yesterday the forecast for the world citrus markets. The consumption of fresh oranges in Russia in the 2022/23 season is estimated at 518 thousand tons, tangerines / tangerines – 885 thousand tons, grapefruits – 50 thousand tons, lemons / limes – 229 thousand tons. Russia is also mentioned in the report in separate categories as the main market for citrus imports from some countries.
tangerines
South Africa’s mandarin/tangerine exports are set to grow by almost 8% in 2022/23 to reach a record 560,000 tons, driven by rising production and strong overseas demand. The EU and the UK account for 45% of total South African exports, followed by Russia (10%) and the US (10%).
Mandarin/tangerine production in Morocco will fall by 34% to 900,000 tons due to heat stress, water shortages and increased production costs. Consumption and exports are projected to decline along with the contraction in production. The main export markets are expected to remain the EU, Russia and the US.
oranges
Egyptian orange production is expected to rise by 600,000 tons to 3.6 million tons on increased acreage and favorable flowering weather. Consumption and exports are projected to rise due to increased supply, with most of the supply expected to be exported to meet strong global demand for fruit. The main export markets are expected to be the European Union, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
grapefruit
Grapefruit production in Turkey will fall by a quarter to 186,000 tons, as frosts have affected flowering. Consumption and exports will decrease due to reduced supply. The EU and Russia are expected to be the main export markets.
Lemons
Lemon/lime production in Turkey will fall by 20% to 1.2 million tons, as frosts have affected flowering. Consumption and exports will decrease due to reduced supply. Russia, Iraq and the European Union are expected to remain the main export markets.
