In the heart of Boyolali, the Aspakusa Makmur Boyolali agricultural association stands as a testament to the triumph of local farmers. Established in 2005 and nurtured by Taiwan ICDF since 1994, the group has evolved into a beacon of agribusiness excellence, now directly supported by the Agricultural Departments of Central Java and Boyolali.
The association’s commitment to retail markets has proven crucial, especially in times of adversity. Dwi Lestari Pujiastuti, the field coordinator of Aspakusa Makmur Boyolali, highlights their steadfast dedication to providing fresh produce to markets in Solo Raya, Surabaya, Jogja, and Semarang. Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, the association’s retail-focused mindset has allowed it to endure.
Aspakusa Makmur Boyolali takes pride in its unique and uncommon offerings in the local market. Cultivating products like red and green okra, green and red cabbage, bell peppers, and long-lasting green asparagus, the association significantly uplifts the livelihoods of local farmers. Some of these crops, like asparagus, provide yields for up to a decade from a single planting.
The vegetables supplied by Aspakusa are the result of collaboration with at least five local farming groups, totaling 217 farmers. These horticulturists cultivate a diverse range of over 80 types of vegetables across tens of hectares, spanning from lowlands to highlands. The strategic and scheduled harvesting and packaging processes ensure a steady supply to retailers.
Dwi Lestari Pujiastuti emphasizes the inclusivity of Aspakusa’s supply chain, involving local farmers from Selo, Boyolali, Mojosongo, Teras, and Banyudono. This cooperative effort not only sustains the local economy but also underscores the importance of a well-managed, diversified, and sustainable approach to agriculture.
