In the heart of Dianjiang County’s Xinmin Town, the Seven Bridges Village vegetable cultivation area buzzes with activity as farmers prepare to harvest the ripe white radishes. Li Dejun, a local farmer, orchestrates the collection of these vegetables, noting that an acre of land yields approximately 3,000 to 4,000 kilograms, translating to an income of three to four thousand yuan per acre. The region’s conducive soil conditions, coupled with slightly higher market prices this year, have resulted in substantial profits for cultivators.
Li Dejun reveals that their produce is primarily sold to supermarkets and the Chongqing Shuangfu Agricultural Market, with a daily output of around 5 tons. Villager Luo Jifang shares her experience, stating that she works year-round on the farm, earning about 60 yuan per day and over 1,000 yuan per month. Dianjiang actively engages in the cultivation and management of fall-winter vegetables like Chinese cabbage and turnips, enhancing vegetable storage, optimizing transportation, and collaborating with major supermarkets to ensure a steady supply during the winter season.
Zhang Lizhong, an agricultural expert from Dianjiang County’s Fruit and Vegetable Management Station, reports that the county has successfully developed 200,000 acres of fall-winter vegetables this year. Anticipating a production of 400,000 tons, the estimated value exceeds 6 billion yuan. The products are primarily destined for Chongqing’s main urban agricultural markets and major supermarkets, promising a substantial boost to farmers’ income.
Dianjiang County’s impressive success in fall-winter vegetable cultivation not only highlights the region’s agricultural prowess but also serves as a model for income generation and market sustainability. The strategic coordination between farmers, local authorities, and market outlets showcases the potential for growth and prosperity in the agricultural sector. As winter approaches, the county stands as a beacon of agricultural innovation and economic resilience.
