The Chilean fruit export industry has reached a significant milestone in the 2023/24 season, with exports growing by 7.1% in volume and over 14% in value compared to the previous season. According to Frutas de Chile, the country shipped 2.59 million tons of fresh fruit globally from September 2023 to August 2024. This season’s growth reflects a consistent demand for Chilean fruit and a sector-wide commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability.
Chile’s fruit export sector is projected to generate more than $7 billion in revenue for 2024, a level of growth that highlights its economic importance. The sector now stands as Chile’s second-largest export industry, only surpassed by mining. Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, credits this success to the industry’s efforts to enhance product quality, introduce new varieties, and ensure sustainable practices. Marambio emphasized that these gains translate into increased investment, job creation, and significant contributions to Chile’s national growth.
Key international markets, including the United States and Europe, have shown strong demand for Chilean fruit this season. Exports to the U.S., Chile’s largest market, surged nearly 16%, while shipments to Europe rose by 11%. This growth reflects expanding opportunities for Chilean fruit exports in major global markets, supporting the industry’s target of reaching $10 billion in annual export value by 2030.
The 2023/24 season demonstrates Chile’s strong positioning in the global fresh fruit market, with significant growth in both volume and value. Through innovation and sustainability, Chilean fruit producers have achieved exceptional results, solidifying their industry as a key contributor to the national economy.
