In recent years, the agricultural landscape has witnessed the rise of dedicated individuals like Koketso Baloyi Mofokeng, whose passion for farming has not only shaped her life but has also inspired others in the industry. Born and raised on a farm in De Wildt, North West, Koketso’s connection to the land runs deep. Her journey from being a young farm assistant to the proud owner of Diatla Tshweu Farming is a story of resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment.

Challenges and Triumphs

Starting her full-time farming venture in 2018, Koketso faced numerous challenges that tested her resolve. Despite setbacks such as crop losses due to equipment failures and natural disasters like hailstorms, Koketso remained undeterred. With the support of her husband, Katiso, an engineer who recognized her passion, she overcame adversities and continued her pursuit of sustainable farming practices.

Innovative Farming Techniques

Koketso’s farm stands out for its innovative approach to cultivation. Employing meticulous inspection routines and employing advanced irrigation methods like drip irrigation for cabbage and spinach, and sprinkler systems for green beans and peppers, she ensures the optimal growth of her crops. Her careful selection of the Novoton cabbage variety, well-suited to the local climate, showcases her dedication to quality produce.

Community Engagement and Sustainability

Beyond her business, Koketso actively contributes to her community. Surplus crops find their way to local charities, benefiting the elderly and school children. Her vision extends beyond profit, encompassing the well-being of those around her. Additionally, she aims to empower more women in agriculture, fostering an environment of equality and growth.
