Yigit Plans to Triple Tomato Acreage Amidst Favorable Conditions
Yigit, a prominent player in Turkmenistan’s agribusiness sector, is gearing up for a significant expansion in tomato production. According to Muhammetaly Gurbangeldiyev, a key spokesperson from the company, Yigit will boost its tomato acreage from 74 to 230 hectares in the upcoming season. This expansion marks a strategic move to capitalize on favorable natural conditions and increasing market demand.
Founded in 2015, Yigit swiftly emerged as a leader in the agribusiness landscape, managing a vast area of 1,000 hectares. The company’s growth trajectory soared with the establishment of the “GREENHOUSE” complex in 2018, boasting 100,000 m² of greenhouse space and an annual production capacity of 3.6 million kilograms of tomato varieties. Subsequent expansions in 2019 and 2022 added an additional 240,000 m² and 400,000 m² respectively to their greenhouse facilities.
Situated in optimal locations such as Kahka and Dushak, approximately 120 km and 160 km from the capital Ashgabat respectively, Yigit benefits from Turkmenistan’s conducive climate for high-quality tomato cultivation. The company specializes in premium varieties like Marvelance and Medlis tomatoes on the vine, alongside the popular Juanita cherry tomato.
Muhammetaly Gurbangeldiyev highlighted Turkmenistan’s abundant natural resources and favorable labor conditions, emphasizing proximity to populated areas as advantageous for operational efficiency.
Operating from October to June annually, Yigit primarily exports its tomatoes to key markets including Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. This strategic expansion underscores Yigit’s commitment to meeting growing regional demand while leveraging Turkmenistan’s agricultural strengths.
