Kaliningrad farmers stopped supplying cumin to Europe. Due to the small harvest, the products are sent only to Russia and Belarus. About this to the Kaliningrad correspondent.Ru said the head of the peasant farm “Kalina” Denis Chechulin.
So far we do not supply cumin to European countries. We had rolling leftovers from last year. In August, the last deliveries were to Poland. So far there is nothing to supply. We’ll see what happens next,” said Chechulin.
The farmer also stressed that the cumin harvest this year was “not very good.” There are enough products only for deliveries to the regions of the Russian Federation and Belarus. At the same time, for other crops, the yield in 2022 turned out to be average. “Now we are finishing the potatoes, and we still have carrots. The harvest is not a record, but it is good,” Chechulin explained.
From January to July, local farmers exported about 300 tons of cumin. Deliveries of this crop from the Kaliningrad region began in 2019. The goods were sent to Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Georgia. Also, the Kalina farm planned to establish supplies to India and China.
Cumin began to be grown on an industrial scale in the Kaliningrad region several years ago. The area of plantations exceeds one thousand hectares. Now the Kalina farm from the Chernyakhovsky district is the largest producer of cumin in Russia. The local product is used in the preparation of bakery products, seasonings and oils.
