Planasa, a leading entity in the field of agricultural research and development, successfully conducted its inaugural Meet&Greet Field Day on March 12, 2025. The event took place at the company’s R&D center located in Cartaya, Huelva, Spain, and attracted over 200 participants from various countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Morocco, South Africa, Italy, Portugal, the USA, China, Mexico, and Austria.
The primary objective of the event was to provide attendees with firsthand knowledge of Planasa’s breeding programs, focusing on strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Participants were granted exclusive access to information regarding the development of new, market-oriented varieties, reflecting the company’s dedication to innovation and sustainable agriculture.
The day’s agenda commenced with presentations detailing Planasa’s ongoing work in developing resilient and high-yielding berry varieties. David Ortiz, Director General for EMEA, shared insights into the company’s history and growth trajectory. Chief Scientific Officer Kees Konst elaborated on Planasa’s commitment to innovation, highlighting efforts to develop genetics more resistant to pathogens, suitable for mechanized harvesting, and adaptable to vertical hydroponic cultivation—a particularly appealing option for supermarkets and distribution centers.
Following the presentations, attendees toured the greenhouses to observe the advanced selections of berries firsthand. The visit included tastings of various berry varieties, allowing participants to assess attributes such as flavor, size, and shelf life. This hands-on experience facilitated in-depth discussions among growers, technicians, and buyers, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange.
