This year, gardeners of the region harvested 148 tons of sweet cherries, which is 2.5 times higher than the level of 2021. It should be noted that the average yield in the region was 20 c/ha, which is 61% higher than last year. The total harvested area this year also increased by 42% and amounted to 90.65 hectares.
In the Stavropol Territory, sweet cherries were harvested by 8 agricultural enterprises, including one peasant (farm) enterprise. The main areas of cultivation are concentrated in the Georgievsky, Ipatovsky, Novoselitsky, Kochubeevsky, Predgorny and Petrovsky districts, in most of them the fruit harvest exceeded the planned ones, despite unstable weather conditions.
“Existing state support measures contribute to the increase in the volume of space and stimulation of the development of the sub-sector. In 2022, the state program of the Stavropol Territory “Development of Agriculture” provides more than 498 million rubles for the establishment and care of perennial plantations, including nurseries, on the terms of co-financing with the federal budget,” said Elena Tambovtseva, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the region.
Over the past three years, large horticultural enterprises have additionally planted more than 113 hectares of cherry orchards in the Izobilnensky and Ipatovsky districts, and a farmer from the Petrovsky district has also expanded production capacity. The first harvest from them is planned to be harvested next year.
The main variety of sweet cherry grown in the region is the easy-care variety “Donchanka”. At the same time, the Stavropol farmers fell in love with the varieties “Valery Chkalov”, “Black Coal” and “Amulet”, which give large dark red fruits.
