Since 2015, tomato brown wrinkle virus (ToBRFV) has been actively detected and spread in regions specializing in tomato cultivation. Currently, ToBRFV is recorded in at least 35 countries, the geography of which is constantly growing.
Pesticide manufacturers are constantly looking for products and solutions to combat the viral disease. And Syngenta Vegetable Seeds was no exception, having recently presented a new tool in the fight against tomato brown wrinkle virus – the ToBRFV information center. Thus, the company provided an opportunity for vegetable growers to use in their work one more tool in the fight for healthy products.
“We were the first company to commercialize ToBRFV-resistant tomato varieties in 2020, the first commercial planting of which started last year,” the company’s specialists say.
To work in the ToBRFV Information Center, the user must register, after which he will be able to study up-to-date information regarding the latest developments, innovative solutions aimed at combating ToBRFV.
According to the press service of Syngenta Vegetable Seeds, tomato brown wrinkle virus (ToBRFV) can destroy up to 70% of the crop. Its feature is rapid distribution.
According to company representatives, Syngenta’s immediate plans include expanding the portfolio of tomato varieties and hybrids with genetic resistance to ToBRFV. Considering that research in this direction has already reached an active stage, in order to prevent the spread of ToBRFV and its detrimental effect on vegetables, Syngenta Vegetable Seeds has specially created its new information resource, where the company’s experts give their practical advice and recommendations aimed at minimizing spread of the virus between greenhouses and fields.
The ToBRFV InfoCenter page provides helpful tips for reducing the risk of transmission, including videos and infographics. All data can be saved on a personal computer or printed. The resource contains special memos, recommendations, as well as regulations for working in greenhouses for employees of greenhouse complexes, as well as information for training new specialists. At the moment, the Information Center is available in English, but according to the developers, the list of languages will be added in the near future.
