The export of Georgian hazelnuts and fruits continues to grow

As of September 1, fruits and hazelnuts worth $105.1 million were exported from Georgia
TBILISI, 2 Sep — Sputnik. In January-August 2022, the volume of exports of hazelnuts and fruits increased by 9.5% compared to the same data in 2021, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of the country.
As of September 1, fruits and hazelnuts worth $105.1 million were exported from Georgia.
For eight months since the beginning of the year, the value of hazelnut exports amounted to $ 45.2 million, which is 3.6% more than the data for 2021. The products were exported to 35 countries, mainly to the EU countries, where hazelnuts worth $ 33 million were exported.

Also in January-August, peaches and nectarines were exported in the amount of $ 28.4 million (an increase of 3.6%), blueberries – in the amount of $ 8.4 million (an increase of 49%).
During this period, only revenues from apple exports decreased. In eight months, the country exported products worth 5.5 million dollars, which is 0.5% less than in the reporting period last year.
The Ministry of Agriculture is actively working on the development of agriculture and implements assistance programs for farmers for this purpose. One of the largest is the “Preferential Agro–credit”, which has been implemented in the country since March 27, 2013.

The main objectives of the “Preferential Agro-credit” are to improve the production processes of primary production, processing and storage-marketing in agriculture by providing farmers and entrepreneurs engaged in agriculture with cheap, long-term and affordable funds.
In addition, since 2015, the program “Plant the Future” has been implemented, which is part of the state program “Preferential agro-credit” and involves financing by the state the purchase of seedlings by farmers for the renewal and breakdown of fruit orchards.
Within the framework of this program, new perennial gardens have been laid out on a plot of about 17.6 thousand hectares of land in Georgia, and the amount of state funding exceeds 133 million lari (45.8 million dollars). As for nut crops, orchards throughout the country are divided into 8.5 hectares. The co-financing is 39.2 million lari ($13.5 million).
