Tomato is a plant that loves coolness. Therefore, it does not grow well at air temperatures above 40 degrees.
The republic successfully tested new varieties of tomatoes resistant to the hot climate of Bukhara, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan reports.
According to the press service, the tomatoes withstood the July heat and showed good results during the testing process.
In the course of the study, scientists from the Research Institute of Vegetables, Melons and Potatoes selected certain varieties of tomatoes for a comprehensive study in conditions of slightly saline soils and a hot climate.
According to the press service, tests are being carried out to create a variety suitable for growing in the difficult climatic conditions of the Bukhara region. Scientific research at the Bukhara Scientific Experimental Station will continue during 2022-2024.
Earlier, scientists from the same research institute identified a variety of tomatoes that can be grown both in a greenhouse and in open ground.
